Helping Orphaned Children in Need
Our Mission
The Margaret Okari Children's foundation is dedicated to helping AIDS orphans in Africa.
We are committed to building the physical, spiritual and educational foundation of the children of the Kisii region in Kenya, whose parents have died of AIDS, by engaging remaining family members, the greater community of Kisii and interested stakeholders in assisting these children in realizing their full potential.
We feed them, clothe them, shelter them and keep them safe. Many organizations have been doing this in response to the needs of orphaned children in Africa. But, we take it one important step further.
Our Commitment
We believe that educating our AIDS orphans has the power to shape not only their destinies, but that the collective power of educated individuals can influence the destiny of Africa herself.
For the past 14 years, we have provided nearly 120 AIDS orphans in the Kisii region in Kenya with education, shelter, food, clothing and living expenses. Now these youngsters are flourishing.
But, there are many more young ones, living in isolated and dangerous situations. They need our help. We currently have a waiting list of over 650 orphans who want to come to our school. Margaret Okari Children's Foundation wants to help take care of these children but we need your help.
Although it does not replace the families they have lost, these children gain physical and emotional fulfillment from their larger school families. We currently provide housing, total tuition, medical care and living expenses for 87 children.
We have committed ourselves to support these children through high school or until they have developed a trade through which they can support themselves.
Our Vision: Leadership & Sustainability
The Margaret Okari Children's Foundation envisions a Kenya who bestows upon all of its children the opportunity to attain their fullest potential, as they take their place as leaders and contributors to their communities, their country and the greater realm of humankind.
In December 2007 the Foundation celebrated a major milestone in it's efforts to help Kenyan youth fulfill our Leadership and Sustainability goals. Andrew Meraba, who came to the Foundation in the 5th grade, graduated from Jomo Kenyatta University with a degree in Education. Andrew is a role model to other youth of what they can all become through hard work and a little help from people around the world like you.
