A Charity For Children
Orphaned By AIDS

If you've been thinking about making a difference in the world, how about contributing to a charity for children who are in desperate need of your help.

For the past 14 years, we have provided education, health care, emotional support and a stable living environment needed for these individuals to not just survive, but thrive. Our dream is that they will become the leaders in the post-Aids society in Kenya.

Margaret Okari Children's Foundation currently provides full support for 87 children age 5 to 19. There are 81 children at our newly built school in Gotichaki and there are six young people in various boarding high schools. We have supported some of these children for over eleven years.

It Takes A Global Village

Currently, the cost to support one child for one month is only $60, and $720 supports one child for an entire year. Whether your contribution is $20 or $1,000, every dollar benefits the Okari children. Our foundation has no paid staff in the United States and has very low overhead.

Unless you specify that your contribution goes to our Parcel of Promise capital building fund, all contributions go directly to care for our children in Kenya.

Dreaming Bigger Dreams

Education For Life: Margaret Okari Children's Foundation is dedicated to giving all the children who are under our care, an education that will benefit them for life.

We have a dream. We are building an Elementary boarding school in Gotichaki, Kenya. These orphaned children need a community of nurturing adults committed to raising them and dedicated to educating them and bringing out their full potential. Although this does not replace the families they have lost, these children gain physical and emotional fulfillment from their larger school families.

This dream is already being supported in amazing ways. The Gucha District Council donated to us a five acre piece of land three years ago, on which we are now building a boarding school and 67 AIDS orphans started school in there in January 2009. You can see the school being built by clicking on this link. By the end of the first school year (2009) we had 81 orphaned children living and going to school here with over 650 AIDS orphans on a waiting list.

We see the future Okari Primary Boarding school for AIDS orphans in Gotichaki, as a model that can be replicated, not only in Kisii, but in other communities in Kenya. Communities with children suffering the debilitating loss of family due to the AIDS virus.

We want to share what we have learned with others so that children under similar circumstances can also be given what they need in order to succeed and become future leaders in their communities.
